Weekends with Parents- Weekend #2
My parents came this past weekend to enjoy our summertime city. It was hotter than hot. Beautiful sun, but you could barely breathe without beading up! We didn't get more than a few days, but we made the most of it. We started with a barbeque by the bay on Friday night. The bay connects with Lake Monona, one of two that make the City of Madison an Isthmus. While the breeze blew, we enjoyed our dinner. When the sun went down, the bugs came out and we retreated inside.Saturday morning began with a warm trip to Marigold's Kitchen for brunch and then the Farmer's Market, we cooled off at the apartment and then, after Becca and Steph arrived from Chicago, we went in search of a festival we wanted to attend. There were three or four to choose from. We stopped by the exclusive Maple Sugar Festival for Traditional American Music. They were so exclusive, they wanted a $20 entry fee. We decided we weren't all that exclusive. In contrast we stopped by the Latin Festival and it didn't cost us anything, but then we couldn't see anything with everyone crowded around the traditional dancers. Well, all for the best I guess. We ended the night with Ian's Pizza and drinks at Frida's the Mexican restaurant.
Sunday morning we headed out to Devil's Lake State Park. A beautiful spot that Michael and I frequent because it gives the appearance of mountains. And there is some actual hiking. We spent the day out there swimming, playing soccer (Michael and Becca giving me tips), hiking and making the most of a beautiful day.It was sad to see the family go, I'll miss you guys, looking forward to a trip to Maine around Labor Day - maybe a trip up Katahdin?
